Lacul Horgești

Phone: 0723 163 610

Horgești is one of the premier big carp venues in Romania. The lake has a rectangular shape with a length of approximately 900m and a width of up to 350m in some areas. When the water levels are high, the total surface area of the lake is 54.7ha, and the maximum depth is approximately 2.5m.

In terms of carp numbers, Horgești is NOT an overstocked carp fishery. The carp stock is carefully managed so the fish have enough natural food and can grow steadily. The lake is rich with natural food in various forms (snails, chironomid larvae, even crayfish), which ensures a good growth rate.

The lake contains approximately 400 carp with weights of at least 15kg. This number increases from year to year as the fish grow. Carp weighing 20kg are caught regularly.

We have approximately 150 carp of at least 20kg, of which 20-30 specimens over 25kg and seven different carp over 30kg. The current lake record is 33.6kg (caught October 2025).

The lake has 22 swims. There are 16 swims on the west bank, where the bailiffs’ cabin is also located, and another seven swims on the opposite bank. The swims are well spread, with ample distances between them. In the middle of the lake, a series of buoys indicate the maximum distance that can be fished from each swim.

The lake’s infrastructure provides a comfortable and safe fishing experience. Some of the swims have 4x3m cabins for two or three people. There are toilets with running water and showers with hot water. Fish care equipment (mats, tripods, slings) can be rented.
