Fishing Horgești Lake can involve long waiting periods, and the baits must be chosen in such a way that they remain on the baited spot for one or two days (if not eaten by fish sooner). More than once, large carp have been caught on rigs that had been in the water for at least 24 hours.
One of the preferred baits for anglers for this type of fishing are boilies. Any good quality boilie can be used for loose feeding. We also suggest using hardened hookbaits that can provide a 48 hour breakdown (or more). All types of hookbaits are effective – pop-ups, critically balanced, or sinkers.
At Horgești, a lot of fishing is done with boilies, and probably, in recent years, boilies are responsible for the biggest catches.
Fishing can also be successful with prepared seeds (unprepared ones are not allowed), but it must be taken into account that the lake also has small and medium-sized carp and grass carp, which can make short work of any seeds. There are also crucian carp of 1-2kg, another big consumer of prepared seeds. Seeds combined with boilies are an effective bait throughout the season.
In addition to boilies and seeds, we advise our customers (in the warm season) to use large, extruded, oily pellets that do not dissolve immediately. For example halibut pellets are highly appreciated by carp and are very effective. Halibut pellets will break down slowly depending on composition and size, as well as water temperature. The warmer the water, the faster the pellets dissolve.
As a baiting strategy, we advise anglers to bait cautiously, at least in the beginning of the session. Massive baiting is risky and may not yield results. If the carp respond well and weather conditions are favorable for feeding, the amount of bait can be gradually increased.
