Fishing at Horgești can involve long waiting periods, and the bait and groundbait must be chosen in such a way that they remain on the baited spot for one or two days (if not eaten by fish sooner). More than once, large carp have been caught on rigs that had been in the water for at least 24 hours.

One of the preferred baits for anglers for this type of fishing are boilies. For groundbait boilies, any good quality boilie can be used. For hookbaits, reinforced boilies, which can last on the rig for up to 48 hours, are useful. All types of hookbait boilies are effective – pop-ups, critically balanced, or sinkers.

At Horgești, a lot of fishing is done with boilies, and probably, in recent years, boilies are responsible for the biggest catches.

Fishing can also be successful with prepared seeds (unprepared ones are prohibited by regulations), but it must be taken into account that the lake also has small and medium-sized carp or amur (tench), which can quickly clean out areas baited with seeds. There are also crucian carp of 1-2kg each, another major consumer of prepared seeds. Seeds combined with boilies are an effective bait in any season.

In the warm season, in addition to boilies and seeds, we recommend using large, extruded, oily pellets that do not dissolve immediately. An example is halibut pellets, which are highly appreciated by carp. The dissolution time for pellets varies depending on composition and size, as well as water temperature. The warmer the water, the faster the pellets dissolve.

As a baiting strategy, we recommend anglers bait cautiously, at least at the beginning of the session. Massive baiting is risky and may not yield results. If the fish responds well and weather conditions are favorable for feeding, the amount of bait can be gradually increased.
